— PARTICIPANT NOTES

From the Reading Room

"I came expecting something more prescriptive — some framework to follow at home. What I found instead was a more honest kind of conversation about habits. The habit maps from the first session are still on my desk three months later."

Margaret Kwok

Buona Vista, Singapore · The Money Habits Atlas

April 2025

"The journal programme suited my schedule well — I am not someone who can easily give up four Saturday mornings. I found the fortnightly calls more useful than I expected. Nobody pried, the facilitator kept things on a general level, and I came away with things worth thinking about."

Toa Payoh, Singapore · The Money Journal

March 2025

"What I appreciated most was that nobody claimed to know what I should be doing with my money. The reading material gave me a language for things I had already noticed in my own behaviour but had not named. That felt genuinely useful."

Katong, Singapore · The Money Habits Atlas

February 2025

"I ordered the reader after seeing it mentioned in a friend's reading notes. It arrived well-packaged, better printed than I expected. I have read it twice now, making my own notes in the margins. The NLB list at the back alone was worth the price."

Clementi, Singapore · Small Habits, Long Reading

April 2025

"I had tried other courses about money. They always felt like they were trying to change how I behaved. The Atlas was different — it felt more like being handed a better mirror. I could see my own habits more clearly. What I did with that was entirely up to me."

January 2025

"The twelve-week journal was my second Brymont programme, after attending the Atlas workshops. The pace was slower, which I needed. The weekly prompts were well-constructed — they pushed me to think without feeling like a test. I finished the journal in about fourteen weeks and have kept it."

How Three Participants Used the Programmes

AO

Adriana Ooi

Bishan, Singapore

STARTING POINT

Adriana, 53, felt that her household spending patterns had shifted considerably since her children left home but she had never sat down to look at that clearly.

PROGRAMME TAKEN

Attended The Money Habits Atlas in February 2025.

WHAT SHE TOOK FROM IT

The session habit maps helped her identify three recurring patterns she had not consciously noticed. She describes the process as "seeing in slow motion something that had always been moving too fast."

BG

Bernard Goh

Tampines, Singapore

STARTING POINT

Bernard, 47, travels frequently for work and found that reading a physical journal in his own time, without scheduled sessions, suited him better than group programmes.

PROGRAMME TAKEN

Ordered Small Habits, Long Reading in January 2025.

WHAT HE TOOK FROM IT

He worked through the reader over six weeks — three to four pages a day during longer flights. The annotated bibliography led him to two further NLB books he borrowed on return.

SW

Susan Wee

Queenstown, Singapore

STARTING POINT

Susan, 61, was recently retired and found herself thinking more often about money habits she had developed across a long career, and whether any of them still served her well.

PROGRAMME TAKEN

Completed The Money Journal programme in early 2025.

WHAT SHE TOOK FROM IT

She found the group calls useful for context — "hearing that others had similar patterns made mine feel less unusual." She has since attended the Atlas workshops and describes the two programmes as complementary.
